Privacy Policy
Effective Date: January 19, 2026
Last Updated: January 19, 2026
1. Introduction
The Racetimer ("we," "us," or "our") provides a sprint race timing and video recording mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use our App. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. The App is designed to function primarily offline, with all user-generated content stored locally on your device.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, process, or transmit to our servers any personal data, including but not limited to:
- Names, email addresses, or contact information
- Location or GPS data
- Unique device identifiers
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Browsing or search history
3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data exclusively on your device:
- Video Recordings: Race footage captured using your device's camera
- Timing Data: Race times and session information
- User-Entered Data: Event names and athlete names you choose to input
This data is stored using your device's local storage and the operating system's standard data protection. We do not have access to this data, and it is never transmitted to our servers.
4. Device Permissions
4.1 Camera Access
The App requires access to your device's camera to record race footage. Camera access is used solely for this purpose. All recorded videos remain on your device unless you choose to export or share them using your device's native sharing functionality.
4.2 Network Access
The App may request network access to enable the optional Relay Mode feature, which allows two devices to synchronize timing. See Section 5 for details.
5. Relay Mode and Third-Party Services
The App includes an optional "Relay Mode" feature that enables two devices to synchronize for start/finish line timing. When you use Relay Mode:
- The App connects to Firebase Realtime Database (operated by Google LLC) to facilitate temporary device pairing
- Only randomly generated room codes and timing signals are transmitted—no personal data, videos, or timing results are sent
- This data is ephemeral and automatically deleted when the session ends
- Firebase may collect technical information (such as IP address) as described in Firebase's Privacy Policy
If you do not use Relay Mode, no data is transmitted to any external service.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. Since we do not collect personal data, we have no data to share with third parties.
If you choose to export or share your timing data or videos using your device's sharing features (e.g., email, messaging apps, cloud storage), that data will be subject to the privacy policies of those third-party services.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
All App data is stored locally on your device. You have full control over this data:
- Delete individual sessions within the App
- Delete all App data by uninstalling the App (Settings → General → iPhone Storage → The Racetimer → Delete App)
We retain no data on our servers, so there is no data for us to delete on your behalf.
8. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected or transmitted, the App complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Parents and guardians should supervise their children's use of the App.
9. Data Security
All App data is protected by your device's built-in security features, including encryption and access controls provided by the iOS operating system. Since data remains on your device, security depends on your device settings (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID).
10. International Users
The App is designed for users worldwide. Since we do not collect or transfer personal data, there are no cross-border data transfers by us. If you use Relay Mode, Firebase's servers may be located outside your country of residence.
11. Your Rights
Because we do not collect personal data, traditional data subject rights (access, correction, deletion, portability) are not applicable to us. You maintain full control over all data stored locally on your device.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
